Horse Wound Healing w/ Essential Oil

Horse healing wound with essential oils

Horse Wound Healing w/ Essential Oil

Horse Wound Healing w/ Essential Oil. The picture does not show the true trauma of this open wound. It had already been cleaned and treated, skin pasted back together. Needless to say I was devastated when I seen my horse. And so close to her eye! How was I going to make sure this large open wound, ensuring that it didn’t get infected. Or heal too quickly. As well as safe to treat right above the eye.

I immediately looked at my arsenal essential oil, trying to select the oils that had the most gentle healing powers. Lavender is an immediate choice. Frankincense is an oil for everything, and copiaba is a great compliment to the blend.

Now considering the location, what was the best way to apply? I came to the conclusion that making a suave would be the most effective, and least chance of dripping in her eye. Coconut oil with a couple drops each of the 3 oils mentioned above mixed well.

I braided her forelock so the hair wouldn’t interfere, let her smell the suave to be sure she was ok with the smell. Horses like people have a keen sense of what they like and what they need, they will let you know. I put a small amount on the wound making sure the skin stayed as closed as possible to lessen the chance of dirt and debris interfering with the healing process.

I continued this regime every day, never missing a day. My horse depended on my consistency.  The wound seemed to get worse before it showed signs of healing, but I never gave up. I knew what these oils are capable of.  I also knew that the severity of the wound meant the healing process needed to be slow and would take time.  It began to scab, appeared to swell and get larger, however, I just continued to let nature take its corse.

After about 3 weeks I stated to notice the area getting smaller as if it was healing from the outside in.  I continued the treatment. Making sure I did not disturb the natural healing process by rubbing or cleaning too often. As long as there was not any debris in the wound I would let it be.  It continued to heal slowly. At about 30 days the piece of dead skin dried up and came off on its own. Eventually the entire area closed up with new skin and even the hair began to grow back.  This exceeded my expectations. I assumed she would have a terrible scar. However, if you were to see her today and not know of the injury, you would never suspect.

Essential oils are amazing. Never underestimate the power of natural healing. Happy trails!

Whipped body lotion

How to make an All Natural Whipped body Lotion for dry skin. Your skin will thank you! <3

Whipped Body Lotion Ingredients

  • 1 cup Organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup Shea butter
  • 1/4 tsp Vitamin e oil
  • Essential oil of your choice (Approx. 5-10 drops)
  • Small glass jars (4oz – 8oz)

To make your own whipped body lotion, start by melting shea butter and coconut oil on low heat in a double broiled. If you do not own one, not to worry, you can simulate one by filling a small amount of water into a bottom pot, and placing a smaller pot inside filled with coconut oil. Do not allow to boil or get too hot, just barely melt, stirring often.

Once melted, let cool completely. Whip the now cool shea butter and coconut oil on low for about 20 min until consistency is creamy. Add vitamin e oil, mix well.

Mix in essential oils of your choice, I like using lavender as it is very good for your skin. Other great oils to use: Ylang-Ylang, Geranium, Patchouli, Frankincense, just to name a few.

Transfer the mixed lotion into a small jar of your choice. I like to use 4oz mason jars, and remember, a little lotion goes a long way.

Use on dry spots, before bed, or after shower. Lotion will go on a bit oily, however, will absorb and dry quickly. You will see the results with just one application.

Also great as a gift! Enjoy! 🙂
